久しぶりにCDを買った。自分が買ったように書いているが、実際に買ったのはTOMOだ。そしてそのCDはAcosphereという人たちのCDである。
ダイアモンドシティーの本屋でぼくが立ち読みしているあいだ、雑貨屋で見つけたらしい。Tomoにその店まで引っ張ってこられて試聴させられる。ギター2本のインストデュオだ。そして、曲は主に洋楽のカバーであるが、目を惹いたのはその帯についていたコメントであった。あのタック＆パティからの絶賛の言葉が書かれている。TOMOもそこが気になったらしい。そして実際にCDを聞いてみると、タックの演奏を髣髴とされるところが散見される。2曲以上視聴できなかったので他の曲が気になりそれゆえ買うことにしたというわけだ。
中のジャケットを見ると、二人のギタリストはタック＆パティから絶賛されているだけでなく、一緒に演奏までしているという。彼の技術を身に付けること自体凄いことであるが、彼らのプロフィールを読んでさらに驚いた。彼らのうち一人は、ギターを初めて手にしてわずか4年でアメリカのバークレーを卒業しているのだ。この事実から思うことはたくさんありすぎて書ききれない。 (A)
It's been ages since we bought the last CD. In fact, it was not me who paid for it, butTomo. The CD is of a group called Acosphere.
While I was brousing throuhg some books in a bookstore in Diamond City mall, she found it in an interior goods shop. She dragged me by my arm there to have me listen to it. The group is formed by two-guitars. The instrumental male duo plays very uniquely mostly great American hit songs from a past decades. And what caught my attention was a comment printed on their CD jacket. It was from Tack & Patti. They acclaim those guys' work very much. Apparently Tomo was interested in that regard. Actually the guitar sound reminds me Tack's playing. We had to decide to get one to fullfil our interests because we couldn't try no more than 2 tunes there,.
Looking inside the jacket, I found more than that Tack plaised their CD. Those guys have played with Tack & Patti on stages. I was not surprised at so much Acosphere's high techneque as their profile. One of them graduated from Berklee College of Music only 4 years since his first contact to a guitar. There are too many thoughts to write them all. (A)
Until the ceremony started, I had been nervous because I was thinking a lot about succeeding in it for my friend, but the moment that I saw her coming down stairs in a beautiful white wedding dress, I totally changed my mind. From that moment, the nervousness disappeared, and I was able to concentrate on singing just to celebrate her from all my heart.
Everything really impressed me!! I had a wonderful time there!

友人の結婚式に招待されました。日本で友達の結婚式に出席するのは初めてだったので、とても興奮しました！その上、私達に披露宴での演奏を依頼して下さいました。２曲演奏さて頂き、１曲は彼女のリクエスト曲で、もう１曲は私達のオリジナルでした。
式が始まる前、披露宴を台無しにしない様にとばかり考え、緊張していました。しかし、美しい純白のウエディングドレスで階段を下りてくる彼女を見た瞬間、その考えは吹っ飛びました。緊張は消え去り、心の底から、２人の為に歌う、事だけを思いました。
全てが新鮮で感動でした！！とても素敵な時間でした。

Lately we've been practicing at rehearsal studios near our place.
Usually we practice at the place called like "box ". But we noticed we need to brush up our harmony skills more than before, so we started to use them where we can set two mics and play exactly in the same way we gig.

最近、家から近いスタジオでﾞ練習しています。
いつもは、｢なんとかボックス｣と呼ばれる場所で練習しています。しかし我々に第一に必要なのはハモリの向上であるとして、マイクが二つ立てられ、いつもの演奏スタイルで練習出来る場所を使わせて頂いてます。

新たに不定期イベント「オープン・マイク・デー」がRJにて企画され、ぼくらは今回それに出演することになった。RJのマンスリーイベントである「セッション・デー｣へのエントリーをその人気さゆえに逸し続ける演者たちが、マスターの心意気により「召集｣されたようである。ありがたや。ありがたや。よく知っている方々もいれば、初めての方々も何人かいた。やはりライブをみるのは楽しく、いい刺激になった。 A
An irregular event "Open Mike Day" was newly organazed at RJ, and we were happened to play there. Those who keep missing sighning up the monthly RJ event "Session Day" because of its high demand seems to be "summoned" due to the master's courtesy. Thanks to the master. We saw some familiar faces and unfamiliar ones there. It was a fun and a good stimula for me to see live performances. A

先日、ぼくらの音楽には「客観的な特徴がない」と書いたが、その点がポップスに似ていると言っても良いと思う。実際「ない」というと言い過ぎで、極めて小さいというべきか。経験的に言って、大好きなポップスナンバーをギターで弾き語りしようとした場合、いきなりやる気が無くなるということが多々あったが、それは楽器が減ると微妙に存在していた客観的特徴（その曲が好きだった要素であり、リズムやハーモニーなど）が消えてしまうからであることが主な原因だった。おそらくやる気が継続していても聴く方は大分テンションが下がるのではないかと思ってしまう。そこに新たなアレンジを加えて新しい要素を生み出せればそれでいいのであるが、その技術は非常に高度である。何が言いたいのかというと、ポップスはいくつかの小さな客観的要素の調合(アレンジ)で生まれた大きな主観的特徴で聴く人を大きく惹きつけるタイプの曲だと思うのだ。 (A)
In the last blog, I wrote that our songs have no objective feature. In that, ours are resemble to "the pop music." Maybe I should have said "a very little feature", instead. My experience tells me that playing the guitar and singing some favorate pop songs often let me (us) down. That is because less number of instruments has the little existed objective features (factors that interest you: rythm, harmony and etc.) disapear. Even if I could force to keep my motivation from dwindling down, I still would wonder if the listeners are interested. I guess adding some cool arrangement would refrain from it, but doing it requires very high technique. In short, what makes popular music interest people is the great subjective feature reacted among very subtle objective elements by musical arrangement. (A)

以前から気になっていることがある。「どんな音楽やってるの？」に対する答えだ。できれば、「ジャズ」とか「ブルース」、「演歌」など、一言ですぐ理解してもらえるように答えたい。ところが、残念ながらどれでもない。そこで苦し紛れに思いついた答えが「ポップス」である。しかし、創作をしているものにとってその答えはあまりにも傲慢だ。言うまでもなく、知名度があってこその「ジャンル」であるからだ。つまり、ポップス音楽として聴かれている音楽風の曲ということだが、それでもまだ言うにはばかれる。絵画で言えば「コンテンポラリー」なのだろうが、音楽の世界であまり聞かない説明だし、説明になっていない。ジャンルというのはある程度、曲に使用する音階や構造、演奏楽器など、客観的要素でもって決定されるものであるから、これと言った客観的な要素で決定付けられるものがない音楽はどう説明したらいいのか？そう言う意味でもって、サンプルを掲載している。 (A)
There is one question that gives me a hard time to answer. "What kind of music do you guys play?" I wish I could answer in a simple word, such as "Jazz," "Blues," or "Enka" etc. which makes people understand at once. None of them can answer it. Then the answer I decided all after struggling is "pop songs," but it sounds too arrogant to call our unknown songs like that. Only the taste is like pop songs, not to mention it, but still hesitated to use the word. I may be able to use a word "Contemporary" which is usually used for art pieces, and not used for music. Actually, it doesn't really explain a thing. Category must be determined by some objective factors such as, melodic scales, structures, and performing instruments. How should I explain our songs which don't have such characteristics? For this solution we post our song samples. (A)

久々のライブは真昼間だった。YUEさんが昼間にも似合うプレーヤーとして選んでくれたわけだが、果たして聴いていただいた方々には、どう映ったことであろう。自分達としは昼間に演奏するのは初めてのことだが、特に気分が乗りやすいとか乗りにくいということはない。夏でさえ冬を題材にした歌を歌ってしまうくらい、季節感を伴わない選曲をしているわけだが、おそらく「ポップス」自体が季節(昼夜)を問わず聴けるオールラウンドなジャンルなのかもしれない。とか言って選曲できるくらい曲を書き溜めたいというのが本音だ。それにしても彼女も

It was our first day time gig. YUE had chosen us as her counter player who would suit her lunch time show, and I am wondering how we sounded. As for us, playing whether the sun is still up or not doesn't make any difference in terms of uplifting our feeling. As we play winter songs in summer, our song selection isn't based on the season. Perhaps "pops" is a kind of all round music which will do for any situation. Actually, we wish we had too many songs to chose. That's true. She writes good songs; that is another truth. (A)

迫る嵐山でのライブ(12/14)を控え、その宣伝を兼ねて飛び入りライブに出るのもいいんではないか。ふと京都で飛び入りライヴがあるのを思い出した。
ここの飛び入りは一応7時に始まることになっている。順番は先着順であるが、ここでのプレーヤーはみな腰が重いのか、7:30にやっと到着したうちらはまだ4組目だった。そして5組目の到着と共にライブが始まった。ここの人たちはどちらかというと孤独を好む？ため、唯一の宣伝の場はステージだった（といっていつもと変わらず特別なことを言うわけではないのだが）。
大阪へ帰る電車のためにそこを出る時、その出演者リストはいっぱいになっていた。チラシを置いてくることはできたが、残念ながら幾人かの出番待ちのプレーヤーを聴けないままその場を後にした。 （A)
It occured to us that doing a promotion act in Kyoto would be a good idea for our coming gig at Arashiyama on 12/14.
This open mike supposedly starts at 7:00pm, and the acts go by first come, first served basis. but here everybody seems to be slow starters. Getting there around 7:30, we were still the 4th on the sign up sheet. On the 5th's arrival, the show started. Here people rather choose to be alone, so the stage was the only chance to promote ourselves, though not a lot did we talk like other time...
At the time we had to leave and catch our train back to Osaka, the players' list got to the bottom. Leaving some fliers on a shelf, we regreted to leave some awaiting musicians without listening. (A)
RJ, more than its full capa as usual
On Saturday, we joined the open mike night at RJ. Because it's very popular event, now it's a quite hard to play there. It has already passed three months since we joined it last time. And we don't know when the next time will be.
Anyway, it's still very special for us to play there. And it's also a big treat for us to see some friends who have the same passion with us.
As for our playing, It was not good very much..... But actually I didn't get nervous so much, so there's something else I have to think about it.

土曜日の夜、RJのセッションデーに参加しました。 とても人気のイベントなので、参加するのが難しくなってきてます。私達も三ヶ月ぶり。とはいえやはりRJでの演奏は私達にとっては感慨深いものです。同じ情熱を持った同志達に会えるのも大きな楽しみの一つです。
演奏に関しては、決して良い出来では無かったですが、殆ど緊張しなかったので、何か他に考えるべきところがあるのでしょう。
ともかく、いつものように、素晴らしい夜いでした！！ (tomo)

長らくぶりに、12月14日日曜日に京都で演奏します。
久しぶりのライブでとっても楽しみです！
このイベントは、『昼間に音楽を楽しもう！』というものです。
駅からお店まで少し距離がありますが、聞くと所によると、とても居心地の良い、お食事のおいしいお店だそうです！
美しい嵐山の風景が、きっとお店までの距離を忘れさせてくれる事でしょう。
スタートは13時で、20分ほどのステージを2セットする予定です。
30分に変更になるかもしれない、との事ですが、私達もまだ詳しく分からないので、分かり次第、追ってお知らせします。
今回のこのイベントには、主催者である、素晴らしいピアノ弾きのシンガーソングライター、YUEさんにお誘い頂きました。私達は彼女の曲が大好きです。なので、彼女と競演できる事も、とても楽しみにしています！
そしてそして、もちろん！！皆様にお会いできるのを楽しみにしています！！

We will play in Kyoto on Sunday 12/14.
It's been a quite long time since we have played a gig last time.
So we're very excited!!
This event has a concept of enjoying the day-time music party for anyone.
It's a bit far from the station, but we heard it's a very cozy place and has good meals! And it would be nice to walk through the great view of Arashiyama to the cafe!
It will start from one o'clock, and we'll have 2 sets of 20 minutes stages. Though we're not sure about it yet, it may be changed to 2 sets of 30 minuets stages for each. We'll pronounce it as soon as the schedule gets set.
This event is held by YUE, who is a singer-song writer with a fabulous piano play. We love her songs!! We're also looking forward to sharing the time with her!
And OF COURSE, we'd love to see YOU there!!!

It's a paper craft
This song has a bit unique background in how it was born.
As some people know, Tomo is a big fan of a Hong Kongnese singer, and we used to cover many of her songs. But because neither of us speaks Chinese, we wrote our own words to them in our languages to sing.
In that way our new song's words are written, but we didn't play that song for some technical reasons, which is wasteful. Then, we decided to write another song using the words. As a result, this words practically have two different melodies. (A)
今回の曲はその生い立ちが少し他と異なっている。
知っている人もいると思うが、Tomoはある香港人歌手の大ファンだ。そしてぼくらはかつてよく彼女の歌をカバーしていた。しかしどちらも中国語には精通していないため、自分たちでそのメロディーに日本語や英語の歌詞を書いて歌っていた。今回の曲もそのように書いた歌詞だが、実際には演奏しにくいということから歌うことがなかった。
そして今回、歌詞がもったいないので、自分たちのメロディーをつけることにした。結果的に、だからなんだということもないが、この歌詞には2種類のメロディーが存在することになる。 (A)
A's work
We joined an open mike night at RJ last Saturday. It's been quite a long time since we played there and also in public last time. It is very confortable to play at the place we know very well, but it also causes big nervous for me... Well, but it was a fun night as always!
Now we're spending our music life pretty slow, but surely making songs to continue lighting up the passion for it.
I finished a song lately, and actually I already have an another idea for the next song!!!
I hope to make a full stage with all our original songs. That's our closest goal lying ahead! (tomo)
先週の土曜日、人前で演奏するのも久々に、RJのセッションデーに参加させて頂きました。良く知る場所で演奏するのはとても心地良いと共に、とても緊張する・・・。けれど裏切られることの無い、楽しい夜でした。
今私達は非常にゆっくりとした音楽生活を送っています。しかし確実に曲を作り続け、その情熱は燃え続けます。
最近一曲仕上げたのですが、実はまた新しい曲のアイデアが浮かんでいます！
いつか、フルセットを全てオリジナルで演奏できる様に・・・、それが私達の当面の目標です！ (tomo)
先日週刊誌のTIMEに"Journey"が新しいボーカルを迎え入れたという記事が載っていた。1996年にオリジナルボーカルのSteve Perryが「健康上の理由」で脱退してから何人かのボーカルを入れ替えていることは知っていた。
ぼくがまだLAにいたころ、Sam Ashという楽器屋さんのギター売り場をうろついていたときのことだ。突然店員がギター持って近づいてきて「聴け」とばかりにJourneyの曲を弾き語りだした。腹に乗った響く声でほんのワンフレーズずつ、数曲を歌ったが非常に上手かった。その時の詳しい話は、彼の名前も含め、大分忘れていることもあり割愛するが、覚えていることは彼はJourneyのボーカルをやっていたと言ったことだ。非常に短い間だがJourneyの一員でツアーもしたという。その容姿や、なぜその時楽器屋の店員をしているのかということも含めにわかに信じがたかったのだが、ただ、歌を聴いたらたとえJourneyでなかったとしても、プロと言っても申し分ない声であったことは覚えている。
今回の新しいボーカルはフィリピン人のArnel Pinedaという人だ。ギタリストのSchonがYou Tubeで彼のパフォーマンスを見てど肝を抜かれスカウトしたとのことだ。実際ぼくも見てみたのだが、Steveそっくりだ。Schonは「ありえないくらい上手い」と言っているが、Arnelをその上手さゆえにスカウトしたのか、その酷似性ゆえなのかはわからない。余計な心配だと思うが、Arnelはこれから個人的にはカバー曲にあたるものをホンモノとして歌う事になったことをどう消化しているのだろう。その記事は今やプロのミュージシャンを目指すものにデモテープは要らなくなったと締められていた。 (A)
In TIME magazine I found an article saying that an American band "Journey" contracted with a new vocalist. I knew Steve Perry, the original vocalist, had left the band due to "health problem" in 1996, and they switched the vocalist a few times.
This is a story of when I was just roaming around a musical instruments store, Sam Ash in L.A., a sales person approached me with a guitar in his hand as if he had told me "Listen up, boy!" He started to play the guitar and sing Journey's songs. Only a few segments from each song was enough to estimate his talent. The voice from his stomach filled the area. I will omit the details including his name because I have forgot the most, but I remember his saying that he had once been a vocalist of Journey, though it was a very short period of time, he was in a band on the road. With his appearance and the fact of being a sales person in a store, it was hard to convince me to believe him, but his singing would have proved him as a pro, even if he had actually not been a member of Journey.
Now the new vocalist is a Philipino, Arnel Pineda. The article says Schon, Journey's guitarist got surprized at Pineda's performance accidentaly found in You Tube to contact him to offer that position. I watched some, too. He unbelievably sounds alike. From what Schon wrote, "He can't be that good," I don't know whether Pineda's talent made Schon approach to him or his resemblance did. How does Arnel manage to sing personally "covers" as his (their) originals, if I may be so bold as to concern? Anyway, the article was closed by saying that demo tape is no longer a must tool for musicians to promote themselves. (A)

I just wrote up a melody last week. This time, I put music to the lyrics that "A" created long time ago. It was my first time to put melodies on the words written by someone else. But unexpectedly, I hit an idea for this song very quickly and was able to made it so fast.
And I gave that song back to A to make him put chords by the guitar.
He finished it quite fast too, and I heard it a few days ago.
But it was not the one I imagined.
Then I was a bit dropped, and I told him some of my ideas to get this song closer to the image I have.
And now I'm looking forward to hearing it again soon.
All the time I make songs, I can't help thinking how talentful the artists that make songs by all themselves so easily. (I don't know if it's really easy or not, but at least I feel so...)

先週一曲書いた。
今回は前にAが作っていた歌詞にメロディーを乗せた。
誰かの書いた詞に曲を乗せるのは初めての経験だったが、意外にもすぐに思い付き、
あっという間に書けた。
そしてコードを付けてもらう為にAに曲を返した。
彼も割りと早く仕上げて聴かせてくれた。
が、イメージと違う。
私は少しがっかりしたものの、少しでもイメージに近づく為に幾つかの考えをAに伝えた。
そして今、再びAから完成を聴くのを楽しみ待ている。
曲を作るときには考えずにはいられない。
「みんな簡単に曲が作れて（本当に簡単なのかどうかはさておき、私はそう感じてしまう）凄いっ。」
私も本当にその才能が欲しいっ！！ (tomo)
