Acosphere

久しぶりにCDを買った。自分が買ったように書いているが、実際に買ったのはTOMOだ。そしてそのCDはAcosphereという人たちのCDである。
ダイアモンドシティーの本屋でぼくが立ち読みしているあいだ、雑貨屋で見つけたらしい。Tomoにその店まで引っ張ってこられて試聴させられる。ギター2本のインストデュオだ。そして、曲は主に洋楽のカバーであるが、目を惹いたのはその帯についていたコメントであった。あのタック＆パティからの絶賛の言葉が書かれている。TOMOもそこが気になったらしい。そして実際にCDを聞いてみると、タックの演奏を髣髴とされるところが散見される。2曲以上視聴できなかったので他の曲が気になりそれゆえ買うことにしたというわけだ。
中のジャケットを見ると、二人のギタリストはタック＆パティから絶賛されているだけでなく、一緒に演奏までしているという。彼の技術を身に付けること自体凄いことであるが、彼らのプロフィールを読んでさらに驚いた。彼らのうち一人は、ギターを初めて手にしてわずか4年でアメリカのバークレーを卒業しているのだ。この事実から思うことはたくさんありすぎて書ききれない。 (A)

It's been ages since we bought the last CD. In fact, it was not me who paid for it, butTomo. The CD is of a group called Acosphere.
While I was brousing throuhg some books in a bookstore in Diamond City mall, she found it in an interior goods shop. She dragged me by my arm there to have me listen to it. The group is formed by two-guitars. The instrumental male duo plays very uniquely mostly great American hit songs from a past decades. And what caught my attention was a comment printed on their CD jacket. It was from Tack & Patti. They acclaim those guys' work very much. Apparently Tomo was interested in that regard. Actually the guitar sound reminds me Tack's playing. We had to decide to get one to fullfil our interests because we couldn't try no more than 2 tunes there,.
Looking inside the jacket, I found more than that Tack plaised their CD. Those guys have played with Tack & Patti on stages. I was not surprised at so much Acosphere's high techneque as their profile. One of them graduated from Berklee College of Music only 4 years since his first contact to a guitar. There are too many thoughts to write them all. (A)

Wedding reception

We were invited to my friend's wedding ceremony. Because this is my first time to attend a friend's wedding ceremony in Japan, I was really excited! Besides that, they kindly offered us to play our songs in the reception. We played two songs. One was the song she requested, and the other was from our original songs.
Until the ceremony started, I had been nervous because I was thinking a lot about succeeding in it for my friend, but the moment that I saw her coming down stairs in a beautiful white wedding dress, I totally changed my mind. From that moment, the nervousness disappeared, and I was able to concentrate on singing just to celebrate her from all my heart.
Everything really impressed me!! I had a wonderful time there!

友人の結婚式に招待されました。日本で友達の結婚式に出席するのは初めてだったので、とても興奮しました！その上、私達に披露宴での演奏を依頼して下さいました。２曲演奏さて頂き、１曲は彼女のリクエスト曲で、もう１曲は私達のオリジナルでした。
式が始まる前、披露宴を台無しにしない様にとばかり考え、緊張していました。しかし、美しい純白のウエディングドレスで階段を下りてくる彼女を見た瞬間、その考えは吹っ飛びました。緊張は消え去り、心の底から、２人の為に歌う、事だけを思いました。
全てが新鮮で感動でした！！とても素敵な時間でした。

練習中
Lately we've been practicing at rehearsal studios near our place.
Usually we practice at the place called like "box ". But we noticed we need to brush up our harmony skills more than before, so we started to use them where we can set two mics and play exactly in the same way we gig.

最近、家から近いスタジオでﾞ練習しています。
いつもは、｢なんとかボックス｣と呼ばれる場所で練習しています。しかし我々に第一に必要なのはハモリの向上であるとして、マイクが二つ立てられ、いつもの演奏スタイルで練習出来る場所を使わせて頂いてます。

新たに不定期イベント「オープン・マイク・デー」がRJにて企画され、ぼくらは今回それに出演することになった。RJのマンスリーイベントである「セッション・デー｣へのエントリーをその人気さゆえに逸し続ける演者たちが、マスターの心意気により「召集｣されたようである。ありがたや。ありがたや。よく知っている方々もいれば、初めての方々も何人かいた。やはりライブをみるのは楽しく、いい刺激になった。　　A

An irregular event "Open Mike Day" was newly organazed at RJ, and we were happened to play there. Those who keep missing sighning up the monthly RJ event "Session Day" because of its high demand seems to be "summoned" due to the master's courtesy. Thanks to the master. We saw some familiar faces and unfamiliar ones there. It was a fun and a good stimula for me to see live performances. A

先日、ぼくらの音楽には「客観的な特徴がない」と書いたが、その点がポップスに似ていると言っても良いと思う。実際「ない」というと言い過ぎで、極めて小さいというべきか。経験的に言って、大好きなポップスナンバーをギターで弾き語りしようとした場合、いきなりやる気が無くなるということが多々あったが、それは楽器が減ると微妙に存在していた客観的特徴（その曲が好きだった要素であり、リズムやハーモニーなど）が消えてしまうからであることが主な原因だった。おそらくやる気が継続していても聴く方は大分テンションが下がるのではないかと思ってしまう。そこに新たなアレンジを加えて新しい要素を生み出せればそれでいいのであるが、その技術は非常に高度である。何が言いたいのかというと、ポップスはいくつかの小さな客観的要素の調合(アレンジ)で生まれた大きな主観的特徴で聴く人を大きく惹きつけるタイプの曲だと思うのだ。 (A)

In the last blog, I wrote that our songs have no objective feature. In that, ours are resemble to "the pop music." Maybe I should have said "a very little feature", instead. My experience tells me that playing the guitar and singing some favorate pop songs often let me (us) down. That is because less number of instruments has the little existed objective features (factors that interest you: rythm, harmony and etc.) disapear. Even if I could force to keep my motivation from dwindling down, I still would wonder if the listeners are interested. I guess adding some cool arrangement would refrain from it, but doing it requires very high technique. In short, what makes popular music interest people is the great subjective feature reacted among very subtle objective elements by musical arrangement. (A)

以前から気になっていることがある。「どんな音楽やってるの？」に対する答えだ。できれば、「ジャズ」とか「ブルース」、「演歌」など、一言ですぐ理解してもらえるように答えたい。ところが、残念ながらどれでもない。そこで苦し紛れに思いついた答えが「ポップス」である。しかし、創作をしているものにとってその答えはあまりにも傲慢だ。言うまでもなく、知名度があってこその「ジャンル」であるからだ。つまり、ポップス音楽として聴かれている音楽風の曲ということだが、それでもまだ言うにはばかれる。絵画で言えば「コンテンポラリー」なのだろうが、音楽の世界であまり聞かない説明だし、説明になっていない。ジャンルというのはある程度、曲に使用する音階や構造、演奏楽器など、客観的要素でもって決定されるものであるから、これと言った客観的な要素で決定付けられるものがない音楽はどう説明したらいいのか？そう言う意味でもって、サンプルを掲載している。 (A)

There is one question that gives me a hard time to answer. "What kind of music do you guys play?" I wish I could answer in a simple word, such as "Jazz," "Blues," or "Enka" etc. which makes people understand at once. None of them can answer it. Then the answer I decided all after struggling is "pop songs," but it sounds too arrogant to call our unknown songs like that. Only the taste is like pop songs, not to mention it, but still hesitated to use the word. I may be able to use a word "Contemporary" which is usually used for art pieces, and not used for music. Actually, it doesn't really explain a thing. Category must be determined by some objective factors such as, melodic scales, structures, and performing instruments. How should I explain our songs which don't have such characteristics? For this solution we post our song samples. (A)

今回はたくさんの写真を撮っていただいたので、たくさんアップします。
久々のライブは真昼間だった。YUEさんが昼間にも似合うプレーヤーとして選んでくれたわけだが、果たして聴いていただいた方々には、どう映ったことであろう。自分達としは昼間に演奏するのは初めてのことだが、特に気分が乗りやすいとか乗りにくいということはない。夏でさえ冬を題材にした歌を歌ってしまうくらい、季節感を伴わない選曲をしているわけだが、おそらく「ポップス」自体が季節(昼夜)を問わず聴けるオールラウンドなジャンルなのかもしれない。とか言って選曲できるくらい曲を書き溜めたいというのが本音だ。それにしても彼女もいい曲を書く。それも本音だ。(A)

It was our first day time gig. YUE had chosen us as her counter player who would suit her lunch time show, and I am wondering how we sounded. As for us, playing whether the sun is still up or not doesn't make any difference in terms of uplifting our feeling. As we play winter songs in summer, our song selection isn't based on the season. Perhaps "pops" is a kind of all round music which will do for any situation. Actually, we wish we had too many songs to chose. That's true. She writes good songs; that is another truth. (A)

　わからん屋
迫る嵐山でのライブ(12/14)を控え、その宣伝を兼ねて飛び入りライブに出るのもいいんではないか。ふと京都で飛び入りライヴがあるのを思い出した。
ここの飛び入りは一応7時に始まることになっている。順番は先着順であるが、ここでのプレーヤーはみな腰が重いのか、7:30にやっと到着したうちらはまだ4組目だった。そして5組目の到着と共にライブが始まった。ここの人たちはどちらかというと孤独を好む？ため、唯一の宣伝の場はステージだった（といっていつもと変わらず特別なことを言うわけではないのだが）。
大阪へ帰る電車のためにそこを出る時、その出演者リストはいっぱいになっていた。チラシを置いてくることはできたが、残念ながら幾人かの出番待ちのプレーヤーを聴けないままその場を後にした。　（A)

It occured to us that doing a promotion act in Kyoto would be a good idea for our coming gig at Arashiyama on 12/14.
This open mike supposedly starts at 7:00pm, and the acts go by first come, first served basis. but here everybody seems to be slow starters. Getting there around 7:30, we were still the 4th on the sign up sheet. On the 5th's arrival, the show started. Here people rather choose to be alone, so the stage was the only chance to promote ourselves, though not a lot did we talk like other time...
At the time we had to leave and catch our train back to Osaka, the players' list got to the bottom. Leaving some fliers on a shelf, we regreted to leave some awaiting musicians without listening. (A)

RJ, more than its full capa as usual
On Saturday, we joined the open mike night at RJ. Because it's very popular event, now it's a quite hard to play there. It has already passed three months since we joined it last time. And we don't know when the next time will be.
Anyway, it's still very special for us to play there. And it's also a big treat for us to see some friends who have the same passion with us.
As for our playing, It was not good very much..... But actually I didn't get nervous so much, so there's something else I have to think about it.
Well, but that was a great night as usulal!! (tomo)

土曜日の夜、RJのセッションデーに参加しました。とても人気のイベントなので、参加するのが難しくなってきてます。私達も三ヶ月ぶり。とはいえやはりRJでの演奏は私達にとっては感慨深いものです。同じ情熱を持った同志達に会えるのも大きな楽しみの一つです。
演奏に関しては、決して良い出来では無かったですが、殆ど緊張しなかったので、何か他に考えるべきところがあるのでしょう。
ともかく、いつものように、素晴らしい夜いでした！！ (tomo)
